Ok, you can empty the tmp of all data then reload clamd, as this is
normally a problem esp. if the / partition is getting full.

i did not create any file, clamav has been running for some time on this
system and it started its problems today. the client called in cause he
couldnt send mail. i only edited the clamav.conf file.
yes the /tmp/clamd file does exist and its owned by the user whom clamd
runs as.

You can either enjoy the benefits of your FAITH or suffer the
consequences
of your DOUBT (Hebrew 11)
James 1:6-8 (amplified bible)
... it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering [no HESITATING, no
DOUBTING]. For the one who wavers [HESITATES, DOUBTS] is like the
billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed
by
the wind. (7) For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will
receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord, (8) [For being as he is] a
man of two minds [HESITATING, DUBIOUS, IRRESOLUTE], [he is] UNSTABLE and
UNRELIABLE and UNCERTAIN about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].
