	Vast subject.  There are many ways.  On some UNIX it will be
	enough to look at the output of dmesg (/var/run/dmesg.boot on FreeBSD
	after boot), /proc for Linux, etc...

	For AIX I guess SMIT is the right way.  But AIX 5.2 and higher have
	/proc as well.  Then there's LVM tools, systat, and of course SNMP.
