what message do you get on the screen just before the freebsd reboots?
I used to have this problem before but mine was due to the fact that
freebsd 4.0 at the time had poor drivers for the realtek cards. An upgrade
to 4.1-STABLE via cvsup solved the problem.

I suggest that you use cvsup to upgrade your bsd to the latest stable
version. you can install the cvsup tools from the first CD in the
collection and then read the example files in /usr/share/examples/cvsup
and also the freebsd handbook at http://www.freebsd.org/handbook
