Phil, good you mentioned the above and that is what we should all be doing,
"enabling IPv4 and IPv6" seeing at the end of the day they are both
transport protocols at L3.
And secondly, most network operating systems, from Cisco IOS, IOS-XE,
IOS-XR to Junipers JUNOS, to Quagga a fork of *GNU Zebra*, to Mikrotik
RouterOS to *nix operating systems.....All support both protocols and all
we are saying is we should enable both seeing one is the past and the other
is the future......
Here is an example to make things even seem more simpler than people want
to make them see....
Cisco way,
----------------
interface Loopback0
ip address192.168.1.1 255.255.255.255
ipv6 address 2001:cdba::3257:9652::1/128
Junos,
----------
set interfaces lo0 unit 0 family inet address 192.168.1.1/32
set interfaces lo0 unit 0 family inet6 address 2001:cdba::3257:9652::1/128
#enable the "multi-protocol feature" supported in the underlying OS and
Hurrraaaaaaaaaaaay... there are best practises out there on how do it per
each vendor OS...
So Africa please fire up IPv6 for just like IPv4, its just a L3 transport
protocols... No harm will happen just do it carefully to avoid black-holing
your network and don't listen to folks like Malick who seem rather lost in
the Utopia of why and why and why......
Because at the end of the day, you are just enabling the IPv6 protocol
feature and those so many applications and services riding on top of v4
today don’t really care so long us there is a mechanist of transport and
until the IPv6 internet grow seeing the routing table is still seating at
15k while the IPv4 one is almost hitting 500k considering its been growing
for years...
