Hardware is not infallible.

I just had 2x 10Gbps shiny, brand new,
still-sealed-in-bubble-wrap-and-anti-static-paper line cards fail on me
this week (it's only Tuesday, imagine), even though the router sees and
registers them just fine. Cisco's RMA department will be pleased to hear
from me...
