This is truly very sad news!!!
Alan was an exceptional person, and his contribution to the development of the Internet, especially in Africa, was immense. He touched and inspired so many people through his work and dedication. I am certain he will be remembered with great respect and affection for many years to come.
May he rest in peace.

Alan Barrett has passed away. He built one of the first ISPs in South
Africa. He was also a NetBSD developer, and an instructor at afnog.

In my view, Alan P Barrett was the smart but quiet engineer.
