<p dir="ltr">If you read so far the goals of safnog, its a "for meetings event". Its not a for bootcamp or workshop or training driven initiative.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Example</p>
<p dir="ltr">1.What challenges are facing infra development in say region x from vendors standpoint, to lack of infrastructure, to government policies, to peering, to new innovations you name it etc.<br></p>
<p dir="ltr">You seem to be suggesting that the formation of other nogs like tznog, ngnog which are for instance workshop driven etc, was a break up from AfNOG, I hope not.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As you may have noticed safnog meetings will be held at least twice a year and before AfNOG hence creating opportunities for issues discussed at regional level being presented at an African level through AIS meetings. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Where is the problem with that? Dont you realise this creates opportunities for papers with content specific to the african context can then be presented during AIS annual meetings. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Unless if you are looking at the entire initiative from a different angle. </p>

Why create a splinter community instead of just growing the afnog one further? I don’t see anything immediately listed on your site which couldn’t form up as a part or chapter of afnog.<br>

+1 Perhaps It will be good to hear/understand reason behind this initiative(considering that this was sent from
<a href="http://isoc.org/" target="_blank">isoc.org</a> domain i assume its official from ISOC). One that quickly comes to mind is distance (the cost to travel to afnog training from southern African countries, which ofcourse does not just apply to southern africans alone :)).<br>
If that was the main reason, I would have thought investing efforts towards setting up "National NOGs", would have been more appropriate. Just like we have GhNOG, NgNOG, TzNOG etc.<br>

<div>The other point would be to ask about afnog hosting process, i.e is selection on "best host application" OR "better host application" that put region into consideration for fair distribution of the travel cost and other costs including language et all.<br>
