 have you checked that talk is allowed to the host, i.e. inetd.conf has the
 daemon uncommented, there is no ipfw or other filter, etc?

 After reconfiguring inetd.conf and restarting:
When I try talking it gives me :
Checking for an invitation on caller's machine
Checking for an invitation on caller's machine

this continues on and on and .........
what could be the problem now.
