RE: Router with bandwidth management




Right, with Cisco you can do two type of bandwidth management - rate
limiting (CAR) and traffic shaping.

The main difference between the two (if my memory serves me well) is that
rate lmiting sets "hard" boundaries to your policies (when limits are
hit, packets are dropped, while traffic shaping  gives you more leeway to define "soft" boundaries.
