Hello Ubuntu champions greetings,

I am trying to migrate to Ubuntu Linux but I am getting a lot of drill with features that I would not want to lose as compared to Microsoft.
I have been using Ubuntu 8.04 and recently I asked you to help me get Microsoft publisher working and you helped me with a hint and I ultimately succeeded to get it working using WINE although with some difficulties. WELL not a big deal

Any way going back to the problem at hand now I decided to reinstall my system with 10.10 which I have used a lot of energy first of all to get the ISO image which at the beginning I downloaded a desktop ISO which wanted to drive me crazy as it was not installing only running on RAM with the CD inserted and I discovered at the latest moment that I was supposed to download the Alternate Version which I had to make sure I do it and get the results same day. I did this for almost the whole of yesterday's night and finally succeeded to get 10.10 installed by 03:00 HRS, I was deadly tired and only slept after the install.

Today morning I started again this time to make sure my new OS can play audio and video files as well as to do all necessary Security upgrades and finished at around 15:00HRS.

Oooops! My GOD I came to discover that my new OS cannot mount my USB stick although it can mount and read a USB Card reader with Memory Card of any type plugged in the same USB ports also it can see everything in my USB Mass Storage drive. I tried also my Digital camera with USB support it read pretty fine.

The issue is only and just USB memory Stick. You can't believe

Fdisk -l will show the /dev/sdb1 with the capacity of my memory stick, Now I am about to run crazy again, I cannot afford to run my new OS without USB stick functionality. I have googled and tried a lot of everything said there in the forums but all in VAIN. Actually I have discovered that it is not only me but many have had this experience though some said they solved by disabling their floppy device on BIOS but to me and many more other has not solved the problem.

I have now reached at the point that Either I go BACK to my 8.04 though I thought I could enjoy much on Ubuntu with 10.10 OR I get the Last help and my LAST RESORT is you Guys.

It reminds me of OUR Late Lecture for Computer Science in 2000 at the University of Dar es Salaam the LATE Dr. Mbise who was always preaching US that "IF YOU FIND YOU ARE USING A LOT OF ENERGY OR A LOT OF THINKING IN ANYTHING TECHNICAL THEN YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT EITHER YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG OR SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM" i.e. Life is supposed to be easier and not difficult in the computing world.

Now please help me out of this predicament as I consider to go back to UBUNTU 8.04 just for the USB Memory functionality.

Excuse me for the long STORY this is to make sure That my problem is well Understood.

Thanks,

Yasini.
