Am still facing the same problem , I installed centreon and trying to add hosts from there but still I can't  receive notification when host is down neither sound alert.

Hello Kwame,

As an administrator, i assume you must have gotten the problem fixed(trust giving up is not in your dictionary :)

This showed that the mail server is now ok,  although i think its strange that your relay is a loopback address (is the recipient address within the same network OR  on your mail server itself) anyway hope the mail got delivered to your box?

Now try to trigger a nagios alert and post the output of your maillog again. Let see ;)

Thank you for reminding me of your OS, mail.log is for debian :-)

>From the stat you have your mail server active and running
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs

10.5.2.13      nagios.mydomain.com<http://nagios.mydomain.com>

You have not added nagios to the entry of your /etc/hosts   make this line like this:
10.5.2.13      nagios.mydomain.com<http://nagios.mydomain.com>    nagios     (i assume your hostname is still nagios right)

After you have done the above, restart the mail server and then send a mail via cli using the following syntax:
echo "your messages" | mail -s "your subject" k.saidi at zantel.co.tz<mailto:k.saidi at zantel.co.tz>   (hope you have mutt installed, if not install it then run the command). Check whether the mail was delivered. Then we can face nagios
