Sorry to hear about this, it can be fraustrating at times when things don't
work as expected and we wish we could see the problem physically and cure
it :)
Here is what i will suggest kwame, when things happen this way i did
normally just start afresh(especially if you don't have any other resource
running on the server). Below is a link for the NM 2011, i suggest you make
use of this if you intend to go the route i suggested(this will make use of
postfix as your MTA). I can guarantee that you will be good(thanks to the
NSRC guys for putting up the great guide)

I have used those manual in quite a number of time without any problem.
