Johan is right – typically, you will not find any trace in ‘sent mail.’
Only true solution I’ve thought of is to force your emails to be “signed with a PIN #,” or such actions along those lines; where you have to enter a “Personal ID code” before email is allowed to be sent.
This could be done via script (or much like those “Captcha” things, where you have to enter numbers displayed on a blurry image).
But, in all seriousness, KEEP YOUR PASSWORDS *COMPLEX* and *LONG*! And always scan for malware!
Warning: scanning for malware does NOT always find such clandestine items as “root kits” (aka rootkits) - those malware items embedded at levels equal to or lower than that of the operating system.
Hurray! I have one of the top 10% most viewed @LinkedIn profiles for 2012. Top 10% out of 200 million users is not bad, eh?
Check it out!

Most finds out when someone's answering their email saying that it spams.
Like in this case and one case earlier today.
And Yes when a web mail account is breched they seldom leaves any traces on what has happened.

Hello vigo,
hw did you find out the exact content of the message sent out by spam. I have been trying to do a documentation on spam mail and methods of avoiding or reducing the attack. I discovered that for most of these mails, you cant find them in your sent items folder. Is this correct?
Thanks and Best Regards.
