From my side, my concern is less about when the spread-rate of the virus
starts to recede. It's more about how governments, organizations and
regular folk react.
At APRICOT last month, we lost about 50 participants (some of whom were
speakers) who were meant to physically attend the meeting, due to the
virus. And this was before (m)any governments had instituted severe
measures on their part (it was corporate travel bans, Australia putting
a ban on anyone coming from China in the preceding 2 weeks, e.t.c.).
My concern will be more and more companies preventing staff from travel
(even to low-risk areas), governments implementing partial or entire
lockdowns, changes with airlines, travel and airports, changes with
hotels, personal concerns, family concerns, e.t.c.
That's what I'm calling "the fallout", and how long that continues on
for is anyone's guess.
Regaining global confidence on a personal or corporate level will be
just as difficult (if not more) as dealing with the virus itself. That,
IMHO, is what is going to determine how/if/when people can gather for
the next couple of months, regardless of the state of the diffusion of
the virus, in and of itself.
Mark.
