I need help on Windows 2000 Server Security

I am running a Windows 2000 Advanced Server on a University Network and the problem I have is that students are able to log into our Mail, and Proxy Servers using some software called net brute, which they run on workstations and sniffs the network and is able to connect using unused ports...

Can anyone help on how I can block the students from having illegal access onto our Windows Servers, I appreciate the fact that this is a Unix/Linux formula but I maybe helped here, too. I must also mention that they are unable to access our Linux box, which is our gateway to the ISP. I know of one method used in Windows called TCP/IP Filtering but isn't good enough because it tends to stop some processes if not properly configured..

Looking forward to you help.

Regards,

Henry
