That's true, however, David was referring to Red Hat 7.2, which I think runs
LILO default. I could be wrong, I don't really run Red Hat.

Except of course, that it looks like newer distributions are moving to
grub, and running '/sbin/lilo' will mean your machine will not boot!

simply adding a new entry to /etc/grub.conf (done automatically
when updating via rpm) is enough, with no binaries being needed to]
run.
