Please read my previous mail... yes, you do need to create a user called
exim. The syntax to do so is slightly different under Linux than FreeBSD,
and I gave what I thought was the right command.

If you follow the handout, what it suggests is that you create a directory
/usr/exim, chown it to your normal userid, and download it there.

But actually it doesn't really matter, you could just download it into your
home directory, untar it and compile it there. When you do "make install" it
will copy the binaries and config file into /usr/exim.
