Internet routing in South Africa
Has anyone any information about Internet routing problems in South
Africa? I have found that some mail is taking several days to reach
Zimbabwe from there, and that it is impossible to access certain web
sites, eg www.is.co.za and www.sn.apc.org.
The problem appears to be associated with Internet Solutions (is.co.za),
which is probably the largest commercial bandwidth provider there. I
append a typical traceroute to that site. It is quite consistent from
here - it always fails at 168.209.0.29, which is the hop before:
ch6-rba.nmszone.is.co.za 196.26.0.93
I have run traceroutes from US servers and found the same problem.
However if I use anonymizer.com to access the web sites above I don't have
any problem at all.
The problem seemed to start on Wednesday 19 September at around 18:00 GMT.
